Two-year break

Let's write again.
Because if I don't, I might actually go crazy soon.

Dear blog,
You need a revamp. Let me work on that. :)

Dear me,
Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop.

Soar high, UP ComBroadSoc!

Every minute I spent as The UP Community Broadcasters' Society's Chief Anchor is a minute well spent and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything else.

I thank our beloved advisers and alumni for all the support and patience, and of course to all our resident members for making every general assembly, every activity, possible.

We also thank all the organizations that we have worked with throughout the year.

Our sincerest gratitude to the College of Development Communication and to University of the Philippines Los Banos as well.

These lovely ladies in the photo with me worked hard for our organization. It's always a pleasure being included in the Executive Committee with all of you. It doesn't feel like we were working all year long because of the laughter and all the good vibes you all bring. Lovelots!

To our next Executive Committee, two words: Passion. Excellence.

On to our 10th year! Soar high, UP ComBroadSoc!

Tara Kabarangay, Usap Tayo
by Leah Reonal

Kumusta, kabs?
Wala kang magawa, no?
Iniisip mo ung bukas, no?

Syempre masaya kasi jackpot tayo.

Tapos nung na-injure si Mark last year, tanda mo, halos siya yung bumitbit satin pa-Finals.
Tanda mo yung mga crucial wins naten vs. Meralco at TNT? Diba puro assist niya yun?

Kabs, tinupad niya yun.

Sino bang gustong matalo, kabs?

.

Straight from a Ginebra fan: Still an Underdog at Heart by Jane Oliveros

Still an Underdog at Heart

I was awake at 5 o'clock in the morning thinking about my beloved team. And here I am, close to crying, yet again.

All day long I've been emotional. Been crying all day for some stupid reason. So, when I watched the game, I was extra-emotional. I can't cheer for them like I used to do every game. All I wanted was to watch the damn game.

Shit. My tears, don't fall now please.

I really can't believe how affected I am, when it comes to Ginebra. It's just a team, for pete's sake. How can they control millions of people's emotions when they're just a damn team? Damn great team! Do they care about us? Do they think about us everytime they lose? Do they read all our tweets, though some of those are criticisms?

Talo eh. P*tangina. Why did we lose?  Why did we f*cking lose? We're close to winning god dammit!

Since the start of the series, Ginebra's game was soooooo different from the way they play during the elims. Japeth is not on his usual explosive self. LA is not on his usual 'pointguard minded' self. The team just lost their swag and confidence! I don't know but everytime Ginebra plays against San Mig, the inner underdog feeling comes out. (Powerhouse team na daw kasi tayo.)

I just can't accept that San Mig kept on bullying my team. Of all the teams, why San Mig? This San Mig team that I hated the most. The team that shut down our hopes of entering the finals twice in 2012.  The B-Meg team. God. I thought I forgot about them already, coz I know my team can beat them. But here we go again, they're leading the series, 3-2.
They're leading but it's not yet over. No no no no no. F*ck, no. Our backs are against the wall once again.

Which I can proudly say, where Ginebra plays at its finest.

This 'Never Say Die' team has proved countless of times that in this world, nothing's impossible. If you only believe. I chose to believe them.

This is the time na kailangan magtiwala na lang sa isa't isa. Wala na eh, ano magsisisihan pa? Do that after the series.

LA made mistakes, yeah, but remember what he did last season? Nagpapakamatay siya doon sa court. Babawi at babawi yan. Especially in this kind of situation. He's not called 'Showtime Tenorio' for nothing.
Japeth, I know, is due for an explosion. I can feel it. You see, in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter, he was aggressive, he was attacking the basket. May and-1 play pa nga di ba? I hope it helped him bring back his confidence.

This is the time that our team needs us the most. As much as possible, wag ng papagsalitain yung sa kabilang team. From the jumpball pa lang, let us show our team how much we love them, how much we believe in them.
Game 6 and Game 7.

Our beloved team.
Our Ginebra.

Nakakapagod. Worth it lahat ng yon. Yung sakit mapapalitan ng sarap. Yung pagod mapapalitan ng ginhawa.

Kaya to our dearest team, your backs are against the wall, but we're behind your back whatever happens. We're all in this together. Nothing's gonna stop us now.

Don't Ever Count Us Out
by Leah Reonal

She*t. Ano ba naman to. Nakakaasar.

Talo. Panalo. Talo. Panalo. Talo. = 2-3.

Sakit.

Mali ba to expect too much from Ginebra?

Well... ito pa kaya?

"Most teams who have a 3-2 advantage went on to win the Semis."

This is what I have to say:

Ginebra has overcome more than enough odds in history that other teams can only dream of.

I'm proud of what my Ginebra family has achieved this conference considering, technically, they're a new, fresh team.

Pero hangga't hindi ko pa naririnig ang last buzzer ng 4th quarter ng Game 6, DON'T EVER COUNT US OUT.

Until then, see you in Game 7.

Straight from a Ginebra fan: Dahil Natalo ang Ginebra by Jane Oliveros

Dahil Natalo ang Ginebra
by Jane Oliveros

#*!^$<%+=?!!!!
Bangungot...
Unti-unti na namang bumabalik sa aking isipan...
Ang pangyayari noong isang taon...
Noong Commissioners' Cup...
Noong na-sweep tayo...
Against Alaska... Against Abueva...
Punyeta naalala ko na naman...
Malapit na eh, ganda na ng ratsada...
Kala ko di hadlang ang Alaska...
Akala ko wala ng epekto yung Abueva...
Yung dila-dila, yung ngisi, yung ngiting aso, yung nang-aasar sa fans, yung kinaiinisan ng fans...
Kala ko wala na...
Eh kagabi bumalik na naman eh leche...
Bakit sa Ginebra pa?
Or should I say...
Kayo? Hanggang saan ba kaya nyong gawin?
Gusto nyo 'Do-or-Die' para mapatunayang 'Never Say Die' team kayo?
Nasaan na yung hashtag reclaim the throne nyo?
Inip na inip na ko...
I'm sure inip na inip na rin sila...
Wag nyo na kaming pahirapan...
Wag nyo na kaming paasahin...
Kung gusto nyong manalo patunayan nyo...
Hindi yung puro kayo satsat sa twitter...
Bakit ba ako nagkakaganito?
Bakit ba nagagalit yung ibang fans?
Kasi kagaya nga ng sabi ko kay Miss Stephanie: "Kaya ka nagagalit is because you just want what's best for them'.
Mahal namin kayo...

Please...

Straight from a Ginebra fan: PAG-"ASA" by Rd MacPain

Pag “ASA”
Credit to PBA FUN
By Rd MacPain

Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, asa kay Yeng

Dapat at the end of the day tayo pa rin ay magkakaibigan

Ginebra Rap Song: Isang Barangay by Dennis Ramirez and Jheya Diaz

A few of my Twitter followers sent me a link to a rap song entitled "Isang Ginebra" by Mr. Dennis Ramirez and Ms. Jheya Diaz. I'm actually here at MOA Arena right now waiting for the Barangay Ginebra vs. San Mig battle and I was able to listen to the song.

You gotta check it out, guys. Ang galing nito :)

Good job to everyone behind this song! Oozing with creative juices so much that we have our own songs for our favorite team.

Isang Barangay, break it down. :)

VIDEO + MORE: Ginebra Twin Towers on Solar Sports Desk

Many thanks to Solar Sports Desk for uploading the video of the interview and I was also able to embed this here on my blog! Buti nalang din talaga at Solar News Channel is already on free TV, more fans were able to watch the interview.

What is Epistaxis? Ito po yun. Hahaha!

It's great to watch interviews like this, it brings our sports warriors closer to the fans. It's one thing to watch them play on court or in action, and it's a completely different thing to see them laid back and smiling. Watching this interview last night, I can't help but be amazed how my favorite PBA team's towering combo is so soft-spoken and shy off the court both at once.

Patiently waiting for more. :)

BONUS:

If you were able to watch the video interview, then here is the song that you've been looking for. Yes. Let's dance to this. Haha!

Bakit Barangay Ginebra?

I had to answer that question today. One Ginebra fan sent me a few questions regarding my fanaticism for Barangay Ginebra for her thesis (Go ate! Push yan!).

Bakit Barangay Ginebra?

That question is always a puzzle to me. The team have already become a part of my lifestyle so much that I always look things the Ginebra way.

Ginebra is my simple joy, pero bittersweet. They will bring me to euphoria in victories as much as they will crush my heart to pieces in defeats. Para sa team, it's their career, but for me, it's life. Ginebra and basketball have already invaded my life in many incomparable ways. This is the only fanaticism that I have that goes way deep inside me. My love for the team and for the game also sparked my passion for sports, something that I am holding on to and nourishing until now.

Ngayon, tuma-tambling ako para sa isang Ginebra Twitter fan account at Facebook page. Online, I post every update I can gather about the team for the fans. Sometimes I wonder what will happen if the day comes when I have to stop doing it. It will be hard, I'm sure, and it will hurt big time because it's always hard to stop doing what you do best. Sana I won't get to experience that pain anytime soon.

Why Barangay Ginebra? Maybe it's for that one reason that the team plays with sheer heart and unbelievable guts and that same reason will make you realize, even if seeing them pay for the first time, that this team is definitely above the rest. This Ginebra magic, I never found this in any other team. Barangay Ginebra is home for me.

Ikaw, kabarangay? Bakit Barangay Ginebra?

Let's Rock 2014!

I'm still here. :-)
-kaye.

All I Want for Christmas is You: Barangay Ginebra version

I just thought about this habang busy tayo sa #GinebraFollow on Twitter, and since may game naman tayo sa Christmas. Hihi.

Sing along nalang. Here's an instrumental version para mas feel na feel.
Mariah Carey version pa para intense! Loljk.

Pagbigyan niyo na ito. Pilitin nalang. Haha!

This is just for fun! Let's win on Christmas day!

All I Want for Christmas is You: Barangay Ginebra version
Edited Lyrics by: Kaye Cabal
(No copyright infringement intended)

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Basta kami'y mananaig

Coaching staff na kay galing
Malupet, can't imagine
Kaya tanging hiling,
Barangay Ginebra, please win!

I don't want a lot for Christmas
Basta may dunk ni Chris Ellis,
Spin ni LA, Mac, at Dylan,
Power move ni Mamaril.

I don't need to hang my medyas
dun sa may bandang bintana
para lang mag-wish kay Santa
na manalo ang Ginebra

Mark and JJ tandem din
Malupit, can't imagine
Kaya tanging hiling
Barangay Ginebra, please win! Baby!

Oh, I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow
And I'm just gonna keep on waiting
For Jens and James, at Faundo.

Bet na bet si JayR Reyes
Lalo na sa energy
I won't even try to blink for
Urbiztondo's goggle three

Cause I want them to win tonight
Holding on sa top so tight
Kaya tanging hiling,
Barangay Ginebra, please win!
Win, baby!

Oh, all the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And all Ginebra fans
Happy everywhere

And everyone is singing
Feeling champion na rin
Santa, won't you give me the one I really wish?
Please allow our Ginebra to win!

Oh, I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see our baby
Minion hustling down the floor

Oh, I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
With Greg and Japeth din
Barangay Ginebra, please win!
Win, baby!

*** *** ***

Merry Christmas, best-est fans!

POLL: Who should Barangay Ginebra pick in this year's rookie draft?

Last night during the halftime of the Game 1 of the 2013 PBA Governors' Cup Finals, Barangay Ginebra won the jackpot as Air21 Express won the draft lottery with a 2/3 chance of winning over Global Port Batang Pier (pick goes to San Mig Coffee Mixers).

Barangay Ginebra's first pick overall this year will be the first time in 17 years since the team went for Marlou Aquino in 1996.

Barangay Ginebra fans and even some from the team have already expressed interest on having names like Greg Slaughter, Ian Sangalang, and Raymond Almazan on the team.

The 2013 PBA Rookie Draft is set on November 3 at Robinson's Place Ermita.

So, who's your pick? Comments section is open for your thoughts. Cheers!

Sinubok. Pinatatag. TV Eskwela.

Telebisyon man o radyo ang gamiting instrumento,

Oras at sama-samang pagkilos, aking mungkahi

Sinubok man,
pinatatag din.

Hoo.Ph: 10 Things I Learned about Derrick Rose during the Adidas DRose Tour

I wrote this for hoo.ph yesterday, September 17, after I was sent to the DRose Tour at Smart Araneta Coliseum, Marriott Hotel, and SM Mall of Asia.

Soooo... I got to see THE Derrick Rose close-up. Well, here's my kuwento. :D

This is the article link, by the way. Thanks again, hoo.ph! Really can't thank you enough!

DRose at the Big Dome
It has been a surreal two days as hoo.ph sent me to the Adidas DRose World Tour that takes its last stop here in the Philippines.

I had the privilege to see DRose as he graced the Adidas 3×3 Grand Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Sunday, September 15. Just when I thought it was all over, there I was yesterday, September 16, at the Marriott Hotel for the DRose Tour press conference and then finally at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium as Rose played a video game against the champion of the NBA 2K13 tournament.

It’s amazing how I didn’t even think about having a chance to get to see Derrick Rose up close but true enough, great things totally happen when you least expect it.

DRose during the press conference at Marriott Hotel
Derrick Rose actually signed a lifetime contract with Adidas worth over $250 Million plus he gets to have his very own logo.

During the press conference at the Marriott Hotel Manila, Rose shared that there’s more than what meets the eye with the Adidas DRose logo. It is very personal as he said that the logo is all about him and his family.

We could actually see the ‘D’ inside some rose petals at first look but a lot of people is missing the ’1′ at the center of it all, which is Rose’s jersey number.

The soft-spoken NBA star also shared about the logo that a rose symbolizes his family name. The three petals symbolize his three brothers and he also mentioned something about the end side of the logo which is his mom.

Really, it’s all about me and my family,” he added.

Want more? Here’s 10 things I learned about Derrick Rose during the Adidas DRose Tour:

10. He loves Hip-hop.

He was asked countless times about his choice of music, even picking between Rock or Hip-hop. He has been consistent! Well, according to him, “Hiphop is basketball, basketball is hiphop.” Oh! And he listens to Big Sean and J. Cole!

9. He wouldn’t put any NBA names in front of another.

At least for the point guard position, when asked about the best point guards in the league today. He sort of mentioned a few names in the mix while thinking really hard but ultimately said that “every point guard made their mark.” Yeah, including you, D!

8. He thinks you must pick him for your NBA Fantasy Basketball.

He definitely thinks that he should be in your line-up! He also recommends you put Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves on your line-up as well, describing him as “a winner.”

7. Aspiring baller? DRose got two words for you: Dedication and Sacrifice.

At 24, he believes that he have already sacrificed so much. He also thinks that he will never be able to live like a regular 24-year old. How dedicated this NBA superstar is? He shared that he wants to “leave a mark on history, change the world and make a difference.” And he’s totally on the right track.

6. This guy aims nothing but a championship.

If there’s one thing in his entire visit here in the country that leaves a mark on me, it’s most probably the fact that DRose is all out and serious about winning a championship for Chicago Bulls in his return. With blazing fire in his eyes, he declares that the team is getting ready right now and that he probably cares for the championship more than the others. According to him, his goal is “to win a championship and be one of the greatest basketball players ever.”

5. DRose on Gilas Pilipinas for the FIBA World: “I wish them nothing but the best.”

With Gilas Pilipinas qualifying for the FIBA World happening in Spain next year, Rose told that the team must always prepare because the world is watching, and wish them “nothing but the best.”

4. DRose will be honored if given a chance to play for Team USA in FIBA World

Team USA qualifies in the FIBA World as the recent Olympic champions and he will gladly take the duty to play for the country if a spot will be offered to him for the upcoming tournament. When asked on who he wants to pick as his teammates for Team USA, he said “just give me anybody. Right now, I just want to go out there and play basketball.”

3. Best advice he received so far? “Be patient.”

Well, for someone who missed real basketball action since 2012 playoffs due to an ACL injury, I guess there’s no better advice than patience. As they all say, it’s a virtue.

2. He believes that he is 100% ready come next season.

After recovering from his injury, he just wants to be out there and play with his team. He also declares that he knows that he is ”100 percent ready.” When asked about his preparations for his return, he shared that he needs to improve on his confidence while playing. He is also working on extending his range as far as his shooting is concerned.

DRose with NBA 2K13 tournament champion Albert Sarabia
1. Even the youngest NBA MVP in history knows how to have a good time.

The one and the only Derrick Rose played with NBA 2K13 tournament winner Albert Sarabia, who emerged as the best out of 32 participants for a once in a lifetime gaming experience with the NBA superstar.

Sarabia controlled Oklahoma City Thunder while Rose played with, well, Chicago Bulls in the final 2K13 battle at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium yesterday.

Sarabia and Rose after their one-on-one 2K13 battle
Fans at the Atrium witnessed Rose controlled his 2K13 version who, by the way, exploded for at least 30 points. There were also some pretty cool highlights during the battle that DRose eventually won over Sarabia by just a singe point.

Both guys most certainly enjoyed the battle as much as we enjoyed watching them go for the win.

I really had a great time during the Adidas DRose Tour. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a photo with him but what I was able to experience was already more than I ever imagined. Maybe the photo will have to wait ’till I see him again. Hopefully.

Straight from a Ginebra fan: Hanggang kailan ka tatagay para sa nawawalang Barangay? By Carla Cruz

By Carla Cruz (Follow the writer on Twitter @cruzcarlaWL.)

2-4. 2-4. 2-4.

Parang iba na to ah." Lalong dumadami ang nakikiboo. Nilalamon nila ang ating Hari. Nilalamon ang Barangay ng mga taga Planeta.

Ikaw? Nasaan ka noon? Ako kasi nasa bahay lang. Malayo sa game venue. Nasa arena ka ba? Bakit hindi kita maramdaman? Kagabi kasi, paulit ulit kong tinatanong ang t.v., "Ano ba yan? Wala bang taga-Barangay Ginebra dyan?" Kagabi?

It seemed like no one stood up for MC47. Masakit yung nasabi ko no? Truth hurts, kapatid. Aminin nating may pagkukulang. Masakit. Sobrang sakit.

Sabi sa kantang pinanghahawakan ko ngayon para sa Barangay Ginebra: "WE SURVIVED THE CRASH, MADE IT THROUGH THE WRECKAGE. STANDING HERE AT LAST, SO PERFECTLY WRITTEN

Relate? Not yet? Eto pa:

"WE SURVIVED THE STORM, MADE IT THROUGH THE HURRICANE. STANDING HERE AT LAST, DRY DESPITE THE RAIN

Tama diba? No matter what kind of storm the world brings to this team, we're still dry despite the rain.

"WHERE WE ARE? IS THIS WHERE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE?

We've been all in this together. All we have to do is to get through all of this AGAIN together.

Hanggang saan ka tatagay para sa Barangay? Ang sagot? Ikaw lamang ang nakakaalam. Sana TAGAY HANGGANG SA TAGUMPAY!

Asan na ba ang Barangay?

"WE ARE WHERE NO ONE CAN TEAR US APART! THAT'S WHERE WE ARE!"
